VAT deductions for vehicle expenses

As a business, you may in certain cases claim VAT on your car, motorbike, van or truck it it has yellow plates or parot plates (papegøjeplader). It all depends on what you use the vehicle for.

When you use a vehicle for purposes subject to VAT, you are entitled to deduct certain vehicle expenses, including the following:

  • Petrol and diesel
  • Bridge toll payable when crossing the Great Belt bridge (Storebæltsbroen)
  • Bridge toll payable when crossing the Oresund Bridge (Øresundsbroen)
  • Parking fees
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Transporting a vehicle by ferry, minus passenger expenses

You can't claim VAT on: 

  • Insurance expenses and fines
  • Vehicles on white plates
